Part 4

Silently they approached the castle, unsure of what awaited them. They had heard the stories, the tales of her immense power and they feared her. They intended to hit during the day but the resistance had been stronger than they expected; now the sun was going down and they would either have to wait till dawn or attack now.  The news of the Special one had sent Jajij into jubilation, had caused Vampire to work with Fae, Elf to work with Gazella, the realm had united, done what Eirene had hoped and together they fought to protect their home and their way of life.

Shoid stood and listened to their movements, their squeals of lust, his mind became filled with their hunger to kill, to claim Jajij for themselves. He thought of home, his old home, he would have dug the potatoes and fed the animals, eaten a hearty meal and would now be on his way to Jane, he laughed to himself, now he was watching the horizon for signs of Hellion, preparing to fight and possibly die. Was he scared, hell yes, he was shitting himself but he had been taught by Lykaios and would do his best for his clan. Sending a message to Cailean that they were here he watched.

Gathered in the hall they waited, plans set and orders given they were ready. Eirene entered in her usual calm way and asked softly if all was set. Cailean nodded “We are ready” Kelsa leant against the wall and watched, her kind did not fight together, detached from the rest she closed her eyes. Lykaios watched her, she had deliberately separated herself from them her Quella training taking over, her calmness and quiet strength was astonishing even to him. He had not spoken to her since that night, maybe he should……

Shouts and yells descended through the castle as the Hellion attacked, the sound of swords broken by screams.

Cailean kept his eyes on Eirene waiting for a sign, sitting quietly she smiled at him in reassurance, all will be well. The three Vampires and Fayna took their post in the hall surrounding the others as best they could; their eyes scanned for movement their senses sharp. Shoid was the first, his eyes on the main door he waited for the Hellion to approach then swung at it. Another burst through the window and went for Cailean, sensing one down the corridor Lykaios turned just as the beast leapt at him. Another appeared going for Fayna, they fought with all they had avoiding the poisonous blades of the Hellion.

Kelsa turned as one tried to sneak up behind her, she swung at it striking it full on the face and it dropped to the ground dead. Eirene moved to the circle and took her place “Nahele, child of the earth you must stand her” Nahele did as she was asked. Eirene called again “Kelsa, you are a child of fire you must stand here and John you are of water, please” she pointed to where he must stand. The four of them now stood at each point of the circle, the candles lit there flame’s flickered causing shadows to dance around the walls. Spotting one of the beasts approaching Eirene Kelsa made a move for it only to be told to stay where she was.

Eirene raised her hand towards the Hellion, a blast of light shot from her fingers and striking the creature turned it to ash. John stared his mouth wide, bloody hell if she could do that! Her attention back to the circle she stood as the child of wind and calmly told them that no matter what happened they must not step from the circle, her hands reached up to the ceiling as she started to chant, over and over again she spoke the same words, words that no other understood. Kelsa, John and Nahele felt an energy sweeping through their bodies. A golden light filtered up from the floor.

John’s head started to thump, pulsate, he felt sick. Nahele too felt it but for her it made her dizzy, her eyes tried to focus while she fought to stay on her feet. Kelsa felt nothing except an intense heat flow through her, it rushed through her blood causing her lungs to boil and her heart to tighten but blocking the pain she stood like a statue and waited. The Hellion watched them with suspicion, slowly moved in expecting them to attack but they didn’t move. Cailean saw them and turned, in a flash he had passed them his sword slicing through each of them.

Brightness consumed the room, turned everything white, the ground started to shake. The Hellion froze; fear in their eyes, their axes fell to the ground as they tried to keep balance. A grumbling sound rose from the ground and filled the room, roaring at such a level the three Vampires could do nothing but cover their ears. She was in the circle, protected by its power, Kelsa watched in horror as one of the beasts made a move for Lykaios. Swinging its axe it brought it down at him only to have it blocked by her sword. Lykaios looked at her in thanks but could do nothing else.

Kelsa felt its immense power, the energy that flowed through whatever Eirene had called, it was getting hard to breath, her ears rung and her head pounded. On shaking legs she made it back to the circle. Nahele looked at Eirene as she started to glow; the blue light grew stronger encasing the woman in its ethereal binding the colour grew so intense it was difficult to see her.

Suddenly a wind burst through the doors and windows, it whipped round the castle as if searching for something. The brightness grew, became more intense blinding those that hadn’t closed their eyes.

The wind was almost a hurricane, the roaring like a volcano erupting and the ground shook as if it was ripping apart, even in the safety of the circle they could feel its force. Their eyes jammed shut their hands over their ears they kept their heads down and hoped.

The blue light grew brighter and brighter around Eirene until you could no longer see her, as if you were surrounded by a wall of intense colour.

It stopped.

Wonderfully written and your shots are amazing!
As Drew said your writing is very descriptive. You really make it easy for the reader to imagine what sort of world they are living in.

This story is like nothing I have ever read before, it's such a wonderful tale!
